Postdoctoral opportunity at the Bristol Interaction and Graphics group

The Bristol Interaction and Graphics group (big.cs.bris.ac.uk) of the
University of Bristol is seeking to appoint a post-doctoral researcher
with expertise in the area of in ultrasound sensor use and
measurement or in haptic interaction. Ideally, you will have expertise
in both topics, and it is anticipated that you will have skills in one
of these two topics with an interest in learning more about the other.

The project will investigate the use of ultrasound transducers to
provide ‘feelable’ feedback through air to provide multi-point haptic
feedback on the surface of a multi-touch horizontal surface. You will
develop experiments and simulations concerning the use of ultrasound
sensors for generating force-feedback at multiple locations on a
surface and identify physical setup for an integrated multi-touch
system.

Within these objectives there will be plenty of freedom and
flexibility in shaping the research project. You will work closely
with collaborators from the Bristol Ultrasonics group and the Glasgow
Interactive Systems group. The ultimate key requirement is to
demonstrate academic excellence through high-quality peer-reviewed
papers and strong interaction with the peer-community.

You will have a PhD in a related discipline, good hardware
photocopying skills and experience with haptic technologies and/or
Ultrasound sensors. You will also have hardware prototyping skills
together with experience with haptic technologies and /or ultrasound
censors.
