Dos puestos en el German Research Centre for Geosciences

The Working Group Geoinformation Management and Visualization at German Research Centre for Geosciences is seeking candidates for a PhD and a Postdoc position in the interdisciplinary Potsdam Research Cluster for Georisk Analysis, Environmental Change and Sustainability „PROGRESS“ (http://www.geo.unipotsdam.de/progress/). The research fields of interest are: a) Visualization of spatiotemporal data quality and uncertainty and b) Geovisual Analytics which combines methods from interactive geovisualization and computational analysis, especially spatio-temporal data mining. (see attached file).



The positions will be filled earliest as possible



The German Research Centre for Geosciences is located at Potsdam, 30 Minutes by car or train south of the centre of Berlin.


Scientist Position (m/f)
No. 71/1/09 D


Tasks:
• Establishing and representing the research field of Geovisual Analytics at GFZ
• Developing combined concepts of spatio-temporal data mining and geovisualization methods for risk
analysis, risk assessment and risk communication
• Implementing the concepts as prototypes
• Cooperating with the interdisciplinary PROGRESS partners
• Publishing and presenting scientific results
• Guiding PhD and Diploma students
• Developing project proposals


Qualifications:
• PhD in Computer Science, Informatics, Geoinformatics, Earth Sciences
• Fundamental knowledge in one or more of the following fields
Information visualization,
Geovisualization,
Data Mining
• Programming skills preferable in Java or C++
• Interest in the field of earth sciences
• Responsible and self dependent work attitude
• Abilities to work in interdisciplinary teams
• Good English skills


Start: 01.02.2010
Duration: until 31. May 2013
