Post-doc and two fully-funded PhD positions at University of Otago, New Zealand

The HCI lab at the University of Otago, Dunedin, New Zealand (www.hci.otago.ac.nz) has one post-doc and two PhD positions available.

The HCI lab is co-lead by Prof. Holger Regenbrecht and Assoc. Prof. Tobias Langlotz and has its main focus on research in the field of Virtual and Augmented Realities. We are in particularly active in telepresence research (sense of presence, telepresence), vision augmentations and computational glasses (enhancing human vision and compensating visual impairments using AR technology), and interaction within continuous and omnipresent AR environments (Pervasive AR). We have many exciting collaborations with other leading international labs and our works are frequently published top venues for VR and AR research such as ACM CHI, IEEE VR, IEEE ISMAR, IEEE TVCG, etc.

Positions:
We are looking at the moment for one postdoctoral researcher and two PhD students.

Postdoctoral researcher:
We are looking for someone who has interest and experience to support us with our research in particular on Vision Augmentations or on interactions in continuous and omnipresent AR environments. It is envisioned that the candidate helps to shape the research and adds new facets to our lab. The candidate should have a PhD degree in Computer Science or related disciplines with a focus on Visual Computing (Computer Graphics, Computer Vision), Human-Computer Interaction, or Wearable Computing. However, we will also consider candidates with other degrees if they fit within the team (e.g. Physics, Mathematics, or Psychology). In any case we would expect a great team player with good research skills evidenced by a track record of publications, and a proficiency in English. The position is for a period over 2 years and the salary is 75,896NZD per year.
The application deadline is the 23.06.2019 and applications are via the university recruitment system:

Two PhD positions:
We are looking for students who are interested in topics on either vision augmentations using AR technology or telepresence solutions for indigenous groups. The former requires solid technical skills such as a good background in either Computer Graphics, HCI, or Computer Vision and existing skills in programming in C dialects (C, C++, C#, …). The latter requires familiarity with the foundations in Computer Graphics and HCI. Experience with Unity 3D or Unreal engine is not required but a plus. Both positions are for 3 years and they are fully paid (study fees and living expenses).
The initial deadline for the PhD positions is 23.06.2019 but later applications will be considered in case the positions could not be filled. Applications should be sent via email to Tobias Langlotz (tobias.langlotz@otago.ac.nz).

In case you are interested in joining the University of Otago at a later point in time and work with us, there are also always PhD scholarships available for highly talented students. University of Otago and Dunedin:
The University of Otago (www.otago.ac.nz) is located in Dunedin (New Zealand, South Island) and is NZ oldest and most research intense university. We have around 21,000 students including more than 2,800 international students and around 4,000 staff working in 4 divisions. All this on a campus a few walking minutes from the town center and within a short car ride to some of NZ best surf beaches and wildlife attractions such as the Otago Peninsula. Queenstown, Wanaka and the Southern Alps are also easily accessible from Dunedin and there are several daily flights to other centres in NZ or Australia. If you are not convinced yet have a look at the Dunedin YouTube channel for more impressions: https://www.youtube.com/user/DunedinNZofficial/
