Introduction
Member of the Computer Security Team in the Information Technology Department (IT), Department Infrastructure Group (DI), Computer Security Office Section (CSO).

Computer security at CERN is a permanent process, which needs to be pursued actively and permanently. The CERN Computer Security Team is facing this challenge daily in securing CERN's desktop computers, computing services, GRID computing as well as its control systems. This challenge includes the development and deployment of preventive and protective measures as well as the detection and response to occurring security incidents.
Functions
As a member of the Computer Security team you will play a key role in improving the computer security at CERN.

You will:

  • Plan, organize, conduct and document security risk analyses, security assessments and security reviews of software, services and systems in collaboration with the corresponding software/service/system owners and experts.
  • Become member of the Computer Security Incident Response Team (CSIRT) which can rapidly and effectively investigate and contain any computer security incidents which occur, in particular of incidents related with the WLCG computing grid.
  • Take an active role and responsibilities in pursuing new security projects of the Security Team.
  • Organize and give training sessions on security and develop new means to raise security awareness at CERN.
  • Proactively follow up current trends related with security and incorporate them to CERN security if possible.
Qualification required
Master's degree in the field of Computer Engineering, or equivalent.

Experience and competencies

The experience required for this post is:

  • Proven in-depth experience in the computer security domain, on computer, network or software security, or as computer system administrator.
  • Proven experience in handling security incidents.
  • Proven experience in managing, running and operating Grid computing services.
  • Proven experience to present to large technical and non-technical audiences.

The technical competencies required for this post are:

  • Security administration: good knowledge in organizing and conducting security reviews and assessments, including that of software.
  • IT Operations: good knowledge on the technologies used in grid computing, their inter-dependencies and the managerial aspects of the grid.
  • Design and selection of methods & tools: good knowledge in architecting computing services and/or software applications.
  • Programming/Software development: good knowledge of shell scripting and programming (perl, python, and/or c), other languages or technologies would be a plus.
  • System software administration: good knowledge in managing small computing clusters (linux prefered) .
  • Service desk and incident management.

The behavioural competencies required for this post are:

  • Working in the interest of the Organization: Championing new initiatives within and beyond the scope of own job; promoting synergy and cooperation between the various parts of the Organization.

The language competencies required are:

  • English: spoken and written, with the ability to draw-up technical specifications and/or scientific reports, and/or to make oral presentations. The ability to understand and speak French in professional contexts would be an advantage.

These functions require:


  • Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organization.
  • Work during nights, Sundays and official holidays, when required by the needs of the Organization.
