Post-Doctoral Researcher Position in AR/VR at USC ICT

The Institute for Creative Technologies (ICT) is looking for a Postdoctoral Scholar Research Associate to join our Mixed Reality Lab (MxR).
The role of the researcher will be to support a project, investigating a new form of human-computer interaction, facilitated by electroencephalography (EEG), and known as cortically coupled computing. The project will involve the development of an immersive (virtual and augmented reality) experimental test bed to present 3D immersive stimuli to users and involve tasks such as locomotion, visual search, and other perceptual judgments. This experimental test bed will log EEG and other forms of data, which will be interpreted and used to train algorithms to assist users in performing complex recognition and search tasks. The researcher would contribute to study design, data analysis, implementation, and submission of results for publication.
The project is supported by US Army funding and will be performed in collaboration with researchers across a number of different universities and organizations. This is a one-year position, with the possibility of renewal contingent upon funding.
Preferred Education:  
  • A Ph.D., or equivalent, within the last three years in computer science, human-computer interaction, or a related field is preferred.
 Skills:
  • Strong software engineering skills
Experience:
  • Designing, implementing, and conducting human-subjects research.
  • Physiological data collection, such as EEG, is a desirable.
  • Development experience with virtual or augmented reality and the Unity game engine.
  • A track record of publication in peer reviewed journals and conferences are preferred.

Two Post Doctoral Positions at the THINKlab, University of Salford, Manchester, UK

Research Fellow Post 1 (Grade 7, £32,548 - £38,833 ):
Applications are sought for a Research Fellow post to work with this international research project.  The Research Fellow will be responsible for providing the leadership in developing a distributed collaborative environment for analysing near real-time 3D satellite data for disaster interventions.  This research will explore how the near-real time data can be processed in order to construct a true situation on the ground during live disasters. The Research Fellow will work closely with our industry partners – the UK Satellite Application Centre and Telespazio Vega (which operates the COSMO-SkyMed Satellite) and to demonstrate this novel concept. This work will build on the research work that the THINKlab has been conducting over the last 10 years on distributed virtual environments for aerospace, automotive, building construction and space mission planning.  We are looking for an outstanding individual who has a good background in virtual environments, gaming technology  and management of large scale terrain models in real-time for interactive visualization. The overall distributed environment will be developed using the Unreal game engine.
 
Research Fellow Post 2 (Grade 7, £32,548 - £38,833) :
Applications are sought for a Research Fellow post to work with the Director of the THINKlab to support the delivery of the current projects and help the THINKlab to develop new research programmes in the area of virtual city simulation. The Research Fellow will be responsible for providing leadership in developing research ideas and a technology platform that can enhance the richness of virtual city models by integrating data from sensors, satellites and simulations such as traffic, flood and crowd to allow planners to make informed decision for creating sustainable cities.

About the Department and the University
The Department of Computer Science currently has 22 tenured/tenure-track faculty members and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees supporting a dynamic and growing program with 1,195 undergraduates and 139 graduate students, including 60 Ph.D. students. The major research units in the department include: the Institute for Cyber Security, which operates the FlexCloud and FlexFarm laboratories dedicated to cyber security research, and the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS), which focuses on cyber security maturity of cities and communities and also conducts nation-wide Cyber Security Defense Competitions for college and high school students. The research activities and experimental facilities have been well supported by several federal research and infrastructure grants. UTSA recently received a large 5-year NSF CREST grant on investigating cloud security and privacy. CIAS recently received a large 5-year grant from the Department of Homeland Security to set up a national standards organization for information sharing and analysis. The Department recently also received a large 5-year grant from the Army Research Laboratory to investigate the modeling and prediction of cyber attacks as well as several grants from other funding agencies. We seek applications for a full-time Postdoc position with the Institute of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualization at Graz University of Technology for a duration of six years. The successful candidate has a PhD in Computer Science and a track record of research in subjects related to Computer Graphics and/or Knowledge Visualization as demonstrated by publications in relevant international journals and conferences. The research of the position is to be defined in accordance with the interest of the successful candidate and the research interests of the institute. Possible topics include but are not limited to geometric modelling, geometry processing, virtual reality, 3D object retrieval, knowledge visualization and visual analytics. An interest in application research pertaining to e.g., computer-aided geometric design, visual analysis of industrial data, or cultural heritage applications is welcome. The Postdoc researcher will also contribute to the teaching efforts of the institute in the area of Computer Graphics and Knowledge Visualization. It is possible to define part of the teaching content in alignment with teaching interest of the candidate.
