Two Postdoctoral Position at University of Bath:

the ACQUISITION of URBAN ASSETS

and TOTAL SCENE MODELLING.

Salary: Starting from £30,424, rising to £36,298

Duration of contract: 3 years.

OAK: Outdoor Asset Capture.

The University of Bath and University College London are engaged in joint research designed to address core Computer Science issues raised by the needs of the creative industries -- the film, games, and broadcast sectors in particular.

Six internationally known industrial leaders are involved through an advisory panel.

The purpose of the OAK project is to enable these industries to easily use images and video to acquire models of outdoor objects and locations, in urban, semi-urban, and natural environments. These models must be editable and controllable by creative users.

We plan to acquire assets at a range of scales from a few millimetres through the kilometres, from bark to trees to forests.

There are now two post-doctoral vacancies open in relation to this work.

One of these positions deals with ACQUISITION, MODELLING AND EDITING OF URBAN ASSETS such as buildings and street furniture.

The key here is to acquire such models from images and video such that new instances, not in the source images, can be created.

The other is TOTAL SCENE MODELLING, that is using procedural methods to build new large scale scenes populated with outdoor dynamic assets at all scales.

This will require developing new ways for artists to generate and control data-driven models acquired from all of OAK.

Successful candidates will join a strong team already engaged in the OAK project. They must be able to demonstrate an excellent publication record at least one of Computer Vision, Computer Graphics, Machine Learning. They will be able to work both alone and as part of a multi-site team. They will be able to engage with researchers in relevant industries via our industrial advisory panel.
