Assistant Professor in Practice in Game-related areas in The University of Texas at San Antonio

The Department of Computer Science at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) invites applications for multiple non-tenure-track positions, starting Fall 2019.
 
Assistant Professor in Practice in Game-related areas: The focus is on game development, computer graphics, user interfaces and human-computer interaction, virtual/augmented reality, image processing, and related topics. Required qualifications:
Applicants for an Assistant Professor in Practice position must have a Ph.D. degree and demonstrated excellence in teaching or professional experience in Computer Science or related field, as well as the potential for future professional achievement and/or community engagement/service. This is a full-time appointment, and the initial appointment is for two years.
Responsibilities include research, teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels, and program development. An Assistant Professor in Practice is also required to establish an active research program in Computer Science or Computer Science education.  Salary and start-up supporting packages for the positions are highly competitive.  The initial appointments are for 1 to 3 years as indicated.  The appointments may be renewed based on performance and department’s needs.

About the Department and the University
The Department of Computer Science currently has 19 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, 10 full time instructors, and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees supporting a dynamic and growing program with over 1,360 undergraduates and 76 graduate students, including 68 Ph.D. students. The major research units in the department include: the Institute for Cyber Security, which operates the FlexCloud and FlexFarm laboratories dedicated to cyber security research, and the Center for Infrastructure Assurance and Security (CIAS), which focuses on cyber security maturity of cities and communities and also conducts nation-wide Cyber Security Defense Competitions for college and high school students. The research activities and experimental facilities have been well supported by several federal research and infrastructure grants. UTSA recently received a large 5-year NSF CREST grant on investigating cloud security and privacy. CIAS recently received a large 5-year grant from the Department of Homeland Security to set up a national standards organization for information sharing and analysis. The Department recently also received a large 5-year grant from the Army Research Laboratory to investigate the modeling and prediction of cyber attacks as well as several grants from other funding agencies. UTSA undergraduate cyber security programs are collectively ranked #1 in a 2014 survey; the graduate programs are ranked #2 in a 2016 listing. PostDoc position Virtual Reality

POSTDOC POSITION WITH KATJA FIEHLER AND KARL GEGENFURTNER

Starting date: between August and December, 2019

A PostDoc position is available in Giessen, Germany. The successful candidate will join the groups of Katja Fiehler and Karl Gegenfurtner at the Psychology Department of Giessen University. The labs offer excellent facilities for studying visual perception and motor control. We are part of a larger research group on perception and action with close links to scientists within Europe and world wide (http://www.sfb-perception.de).

The group offers a stimulating, multi-national and multi-disciplinary research environment for young scientists (http://www.allpsych.uni-giessen.de). Giessen is a small university town, located just 60 km north of Frankfurt, right at the center of Germany.

The position is for a PostDoc interested to study perception and/or action in a Virtual-Reality environment. We have a newly established Virtual Reality lab, with devices to precisely measure eye, hand, and body movements, and for the calibrated display of color stimuli.

PhD studentship in Machine Learning for Computational Photography - University of Cambridge

A funded PhD studentship is available at the Department of Computer Science and Technology, beginning in either October 2019 or January 2020. This doctoral studentship is for both UK/EU and overseas applicants interested in working on a PhD thesis in the area of machine learning for computational photography. The application must be submitted by 30 June 2019.

The studentship will involve work on improving the visual quality of video captured with digital sensors. Such video may be affected by noise, extreme illumination conditions (high dynamic range) and sensor limitations. The aim is to develop algorithms that combine both machine learning and computational photography methods to recover video of higher visual quality than the input. This could involve, for example, upscaling the content from standard- to high-dynamic range or reducing the visibility of noise in dark areas, while ensuring that the reconstructed video is temporarily stable.
