The VR and HCI labs at the University of Louisiana have two NSF-funded
PhD student positions available in Computer Science for research on
headset-based eye tracking to improve
educational VR. The work consists primarily of developing and
evaluating approaches to make VR environments responsive to detected
(in)attention and additionally to present gaze information to teachers
to help them guide students in VR.
Candidates should have a background in Computer Science and a strong

PhD Position in VR at KU Leuven, Belgium
The Artificial Realities and Interactive Ambients (ARIA,
https://aria.cs.kuleuven.be)
team is a new initiative within the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI)
research group at the Department of Computer Science of KU Leuven. Our
goal is to start a new Virtual Reality research
team in the heart of Europe, at one of Europe's best universities (48th
position in THE World University Rankings).
# Project #
We have an opening available for a
PhD research project. The project will explore the evaluation of the
technologies of tomorrow, today, through
the simulation of Virtual Reality scenarios. The candidate will
contribute in exploring this direction through the development of
interactive VR systems, and the validation of evaluation methodologies
and research through design practices in the context of
Virtual Reality.
# Profile #
Candidates should have a background
in Computer Science or related fields, with a strong interest in Virtual
Reality, Human-Computer Interaction,
and/or design research. You will have demonstrable experience of
programming 3D interactive systems and hardware prototyping.
Demonstrable knowledge of the main 3D Engines (e.g., Unity and Unreal)
is preferred. Knowledge of hardware frameworks (e.g., Arduino)
and experience with 3D modelling will be an advantage but is not
required. You will also have an excellent knowledge of both written and
spoken English. Although Dutch is the administrative language of the
university, you will not be required to learn the
language. Day-to-day supervision will be in English.

This position is available
immediately at the Arenberg campus of the KU Leuven. You will join an
international work environment with the ambition
of kickstarting a new VR research team at the centre of Europe. The
position is fully funded for the first two years (in Belgium a PhD
requires up to four years) with the option of extending it to four
years, subject to a positive evaluation.

Computer Graphics Group at Bielefeld University (Germany): PhD or PostDoc candidate
The Computer Graphics Group at
Bielefeld University (Germany) is looking for a PhD or PostDoc candidate
for a large collaborative and interdisciplinary project on Virtual
Reality therapy for adiposity, starting in May 2019. The goal of the
project is to develop novel therapy procedures by using state-of-the-art
VR/AR technologies for stimulating a change in body perception, for
instance by modulating participants' avatars.

(EVOCATION), a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Network. EVOCATION officially started in October 2018. These PhDs are early-stage scientific and industrial researchers who in the future will lead research and development of novel visual and geometric computing methodologies in the widest variety of applications, including industrial design and manufacturing, architecture, cultural heritage study and valorisation, geomatics, and tele-collaboration.
We are looking for highly motivated candidates for becoming the next generation of early-stage scientific and industrial researchers (ESRs) who in the future will lead research and development of novel visual and geometric computing methodologies in wide range of industries and application domains.
We can offer you a 36-months PhD training program coordinated among eight academic and industrial partners.
About EVOCATION

established as a joint program by the Max Planck Society for the
Advancement of Science (MPG) and Stanford University in 2003

With this call the Max Planck Center for Visual Computing and Communication (MPC-VCC) invites applications for its
Junior Research Group Program
Our
Junior Research Group program offers young scientists in information
technology the opportunity to develop their own research program
addressing important problems in areas such as
- image communication
- computer graphics
- geometric computing
- imaging systems
- computer vision
- human machine interface
- distributed multimedia architectures
- multimedia networking
- visual media security.
The
center includes an outstanding group of faculty members at Stanford’s
Computer Science and Electrical Engineering Departments, the Max Planck
Institute for Informatics, and Saarland University.
The program begins with a preparatory 1-2 year postdoc phase (Phase P)
at the Max Planck Institute for Informatics, followed by a two-year
appointment at Stanford University (Phase I) as a visiting assistant
professor, and then a position at the Max Planck Institute for
Informatics as a junior research group leader (Phase II). However, the
program can be entered flexibly at each phase, commensurate with the
experience of the applicant.
Applicants to the program must have completed an outstanding PhD. Exact
duration of the preparatory postdoc phase is flexible, but we typically
expect this to be about 1-2 years. Applicants who completed their PhD
in Germany may enter Phase I of the program directly. Applicants for
Phase II are expected to have completed a postdoc stay abroad and must
have demonstrated their outstanding research potential and ability to
successfully lead a research group.
Reviewing of applications will commence on 01 Jan 2019. The final
