Three-year Postdoctoral Position in Multisensory Virtual Reality
The Human Interface Technology Lab New Zealand (HIT Lab NZ) at the
University of Canterbury in Christchurch, NZ has an immediate opening
for a postdoctoral researcher.
This
three-year position will focus on the design, implementation,
evaluation, and deployment of multisensory feedback techniques in
immersive Virtual Reality (VR) systems. The work will involve research
into methods for generating and delivering multisensory cues in concert
to produce user experiences that mimic real-world situations in high
fidelity.
In addition, novel user interface
techniques focusing on expressive, non-fatiguing interaction that can be
used to support long-duration VR use will be designed and evaluated.
The
successful candidate must have completed a PhD in a VR-related field,
such as computer science, and have a history of successful work in
conducting user studies in VR, as evidenced by publications in
appropriate venues.
Significant mentoring of
the successful candidate will be provided by senior academic staff,
giving the candidate a solid foundation for assuming a more-permanent
position at the conclusion of the appointment. The candidate will be
given significant freedom to help manage and guide the more-junior
members of the research team, and as such, build skills in project and
team management.
Results of the work will be
submitted for publication in leading journal and conference venues, and
there is significant budget for travel to present the work.
The
candidate will also have the opportunity to assist in delivering
courses within our Master of Human Interface Technology programme,
covering tropics around usability, prototyping, and evaluation.
The
HIT Lab NZ is one of the leading research labs focused on human-centred

Open Position with the Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Group Bremen
Research assistant with the Computer Graphics and Virtual Reality Group at the University of Bremen, Germany.
Salary is according to the German Federal pay scale, TV-L 13, full position.
Job Description:
The
work in this position will comprise 3D geometric algorithms and virtual
reality in the context of medical simulation. The particular
application is the training of surgeons for procedures involving the
replacement of hip joints. The successful candidate will collaborate
with other German partners providing 3D models, force-feedback, and game
software platforms. The job of the successful candidate is to work on
geometric algorithms for penetration computations and the simulation of
milling during the procedure. At the end of the project, after two
years, the system should enable surgery students to experience a hip
joint procedure both visually and haptically in a virtual reality setup.
This will greatly facilitate the training of surgeons and help them
make fewer mistakes when beginning to practice.

The

members of both the computer graphics group and other groups. This job
provides a vibrant research environment where a broad range of
activities related to 3D graphics algorithms and virtual reality are
being pursued. The successful candidate will be working with a dynamic,

research group is part of the school of computer science at University
of Bremen. Our university is a mid-sized university with about 20,000

Qualifications:
Candidates
should have an excellent Master’s degree or equivalent in computer
science, or related disciplines such as mathematics, physics, etc.
Required skills are solid experience in C++ software development, and a
good command of English (reading/writing/speaking). Ideally, you have
specialized in real-time computer graphics or 3D geometric algorithms,
you are capable of effectively applying mathematical methods, and you
have good knowledge in GPGPU programming. In addition, the successful
candidate will be highly self-motivated, passionate about their work,
and have good ability to work both independently as well as in a team in
a multidisciplinary environment. Speaking German, at least for
conversation, is a plus.

For the time being, the position is available until 31.8.2018 (under the condition of job release), with the aim of extension.

Postdoc position: Development and Application of a Virtual Reality Immersive Modelling Platform for Enabling Drug Discovery
The LIMSI (VENISE team)
and LBT CNRS research units
located near Paris, are seeking a highly motivated candidate to
design and implement a next generation immersive visualization
platform. The successful candidate will develop, evaluate and
integrate innovative features from Virtual Reality and 3D user
interaction into a drug discovery workflow. With a user-centered
and iterative approach, each feature will be evaluated both in
Paris and in Belgium, taking into account the experience and the
feedback from UCB Biopharma collaborators. Project foundations
were previously established (see e.g. UnityMol), providing a
defined framework to get started. Using virtual reality headsets,
you will implement readily usable next generation immersive design
tools.
Research facilities:
This project is funded by UCB a patient-centric biopharma leader located near Brussels, Belgium in collaboration with the LIMSI and LBT CNRS research units located near Paris. These labs conduct research on Virtual Reality, Computational Biology & Chemistry. They participate in Equipex and Labex excellence in science programs. As part of the CACSICE Equipex (via LBT) and DIGISCOP Equipex (via VENISE team of LIMSI), the candidate will have access to a large high-resolution display wall and a state-of-art VR CAVE with 2-user adaptive stereoscopy, large haptic device which allows force feedback within the full working area, and 3D audio and acoustic facilities for immersion (EVE system).

Lecturer/Senior Lecturer in Computer Graphics - Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand
The University is seeking to
further enhance its already strong academic strengths in computer
graphics, computer science and software engineering.
The
successful candidate will be given a permanent position and be
appointed at the Lecturer or Senior Lecturer level, equivalent to a US
Assistant Professor. They will have responsibility for teaching in the
School’s existing undergraduate and postgraduate computer graphics
programmes, and also be able to demonstrate some past software
development experience either in an industry or academic context. The
programmes were set up with input from local industry, including game
company PikPok and visual effects giant Weta Digital, and the computer

appointee will also be expected to have and maintain an active research
