The Christian Doppler Research Laboratory „Software Engineering Integration for Flexible Automation Systems“ at Vienna University of Technology, Austria, has an open position for a postdoctoral researcher in the domain of software (and systems) engineering and a focus on data modeling and Semantic Web technologies.
The research laboratory has a long-term cooperation with several industry partners, who provide challenges, expertise, and data for both basic and applied research [1].

This position is a full-time appointment, available starting from March 1, 2014 for one year, with an extension for 2 years negotiable upon contract expiration.
The position has a salary based on the Austrian collective agreement for university employees salary range B1, currently € 47,345 p.a., including 25 vacation days.

Job Requirements
Applicants are required to have a PhD, or to be close to finishing their PhD, in Computer Science or a closely related field, including theoretical work and contributions to software tool development.
Significant postdoctoral experience will be considered very valuable.
Applicants should have excellent knowledge in the domains of software engineering, data modeling, and Semantic Web technologies; a track record of publications in areas relevant to these domains; and proven ability and willingness to participate in the development of experimental software prototypes.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills, be creative, and have leadership qualities, experience with supervising other researchers and developers, as well as be proficient in spoken and written scientific English.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute both to theoretical research as well as practical software development, including software tool releases and industrial prototypes.
The candidate is expected to participate in forming the precise research directions and will be the lead researcher of the research area “Semantic Integration” [2].
Both theoretical research and prototype implementation with experimental evaluation will be required.
S/he will also provide supervision for junior research assistants and doctoral students associated with the project.

Job/Project description
The research project brings together researchers from informatics and other engineering disciplines to develop approaches to achieve technical integration of software systems and semantic integration of knowledge across different engineering disciplines.
Specific example research topics in the context of semantic web technologies are: data versioning and model evolution; change management across software and systems engineering models; and advanced data integration approaches to enable early defect detection such as consistency and plausibility checking.

Therefore, the position suits a candidate with a strong background in data modeling and experience with Semantic Web technologies, and model-driven development.
There are teaching opportunities on bachelor and master levels in software and knowledge engineering.

More information about the Christian Doppler Research Laboratory „Software Engineering Integration for Flexible Automation Systems“, the project team, and the research areas is available at [1, 2, 3].
