Research Assistant, Stretching Space in Virtual Reality

This project involves developing and testing new redirected walking techniques - perceptual illusions that enable users to walk through expansive immersive virtual environments in relatively limited physical spaces. Duties will involve brainstorming and rapid prototyping of novel VR interaction/locomotion techniques, developing virtual environments using the Unity3D game engine, running user studies, and analyzing experiment data.

Preferred Skills:
- Programming in either C++ or C#.
- Familiar with experimental design and user study procedures
- Prior experience with virtual reality technology (e.g. head-mounted displays, motion tracking) and game engines is preferredtion tracking, game engines) is preferred.

Research Assistant, Virtual Human Displays

Research and development of display techniques and technologies for presenting virtual human characters in immersive environments. Virtual human characters play an important role in immersive training, but it is still difficult to realistically represent virtual characters in terms of visual display, audio, and haptics. We are particularly interested in developing and refining display techniques and technologies to better elicit naturalistic social, cognitive, and emotional reactions in trainees.

The intern would assist on tasks such as developing new presentation technologies for virtual characters, implementing virtual human interaction scenarios, designing and conducting user studies, and preparing results for publication. Use our lab’s tools, such as the depth sensing cameras, motion capture systems, head mounted displays, large projection screens, and a fabrication lab to help develop new methods of presenting virtual characters.

Additionally:
- Design and implement new interaction scenarios with virtual human characters to test those new presentation techniques and technologies.
- Help design and conduct user studies investigating human-virtual human interaction.
- Help derive and present results for publication for a relevant conference or journal.

Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity with Unity or similar game engines.
- Programming experience in languages like C/C++, C#, or Python.
- Development experience with Android or iPhone iOS is a plus.
- Prior experience with conducting and designing human subjects research is a plus.

with expertise in the area of in ultrasound sensor use and
measurement or in haptic interaction. Ideally, you will have expertise
in both topics, and it is anticipated that you will have skills in one
of these two topics with an interest in learning more about the other.

The project will investigate the use of ultrasound transducers to
provide ‘feelable’ feedback through air to provide multi-point haptic
feedback on the surface of a multi-touch horizontal surface. You will
develop experiments and simulations concerning the use of ultrasound
sensors for generating force-feedback at multiple locations on a
surface and identify physical setup for an integrated multi-touch
system.

Within these objectives there will be plenty of freedom and
flexibility in shaping the research project. You will work closely
with collaborators from the Bristol Ultrasonics group and the Glasgow
Interactive Systems group. The ultimate key requirement is to
demonstrate academic excellence through high-quality peer-reviewed
papers and strong interaction with the peer-community.

photocopying skills and experience with haptic technologies and/or

Tasks
The candidate will play a major part in extending the visual computing research at EDM. The candidate will take the lead in the technical implementation of research projects, building upon his/her research experience. The PhD program on the listed themes will take place at the PLUS lab of
the Italian Institute of Technology (IIT) located in Genova. The lab
focuses on activities related to the analysis and understanding of
images and patterns in general, thus representing a reference for the
other IIT Departments and labs which have to deal with such kind of
data. The PLUS staff has a wide expertise on image processing, computer
vision and pattern recognition, machine learning, and related
applications. Actually, the research in PLUS is devoted to study and to
build intelligent systems for real applications, especially related, but
not limited, to surveillance & security, biomedical imaging, and
bioinformatics. One of the primary goals is to design and develop
innovative video surveillance systems, characterized by the use of
highly-functional smart sensors and advanced video analytics features.
To this end, PLUS performs cutting edge research in computer vision and
pattern recognition, but also in biometrics, multimodal data and sensor
fusion, sensors networks, and embedded computer vision. Further, another
target of the lab is to explore novel strategies in biomedical image
analysis and bioinformatics, due to the versatility of the techniques it
can manage.

Sistema automático de pruebas de aplicaciones gráficas multitáctiles

La realización de pruebas exhaustivas para la detección de posibles errores de funcionamiento y para poder asegurar que un sistema software cumple los requisitos de diseño es un paso imprescindible en el desarrollo del mismo. Existen varios tipos de pruebas, que dependen del aspecto del sistema que se desea estudiar:
pruebas unitarias, que se aseguran que cierto módulo funciona correctamente, pruebas de integración, que comprueban que dos módulos independientes se comunican
correctamente, pruebas de regresión, para comprobar que un cambio en el sistema no ha afectado a su correcto funcionamiento, etc. En la actualidad existen herramientas automáticas que permiten realizar automáticamente dichas pruebas.
El problema de realizar pruebas de software en aplicaciones gráficas interactivas (multitáctiles o no) es la dificultad de interactuar automáticamente a través de la interfaz gráfica y de definir y comparar los resultados esperados y los obtenidos. Otro problema es la dificultad de sistematizar, emular y controlar el flujo de eventos
que genera la interacción de un usuario con dicha aplicación.
Este proyecto definirá una plataforma para implementar un sistema de pruebas automáticas de aplicaciones multitáctiles.

Actividades a realizar por el alumno
En la actualidad nuestro grupo dispone de un banco de trabajo multitáctil con capacidad de visualización estereoscópica, aunque el sistema propuesto deberá funcionar en otras plataformas multitáctiles compatibles. El becario solicitado aprenderá a utilizar nuestro prototipo y participará en el desarrollo y prueba de dicho sistema.
De forma más detallada, las tareas a realizar por el alumno serán:

1. Estudio del estado del arte en el área de interfaces multitáctiles
2. Estudio del estado del arte en el área de pruebas de software
3. Estudio de las herramientas de programación, pruebas y documentación usadas para desasrrollar nuestro prototipo
4. Estudio del estado actual del proyecto y de las bibliotecas utilizadas

The ideal person will have skills in hardware and 3D display

implementation of multi-touch surfaces with true-3D displays. This
line of investigation is part of a large ERC funded project involving

Postdoctoral position in computer graphics and vision at CRIM

The candidate will work mainly on an industrial project in computer
graphics and Image-Based Modeling and Rendering (IBMR). The project is
funded by NSERC (Natural and Science Engineering Research Council) and a
cinematographic company.

The objectives of the project are two-fold:
1) Validate the concept that 3D perception/immersion in an IMBR scene
can be obtained without stereo acquisition or head-mounted device by
servoing viewer head motion to the scene viewpoint.
2) Develop a test-bed that implements the above concept on a desktop and
serve as a laboratory environment for 3D immersive assessment and
algorithmic/hardware optimization.

The appointee will be responsible of developing the IBMR system with the
assistance of a junior software developers and a senior researcher, and
in close relationship with the client. The project is supervised by the
principal researcher and director of the Vision & Imaging team.

Technical requirements:

-Very good knowledge of IBMR techniques

We are seeking outstanding candidates with a background in three-dimensional (3D) User Interfaces to contribute to an ongoing project on pointing, targeting and manipulation on 3D displays. Knowledge in the area of human perception and motor control is an asset.

Stereo and 3D display systems are becoming more and more commonplace. Pointing at, tracking, targeting, and manipulation of objects in 3D displays are fundamental actions in many virtual environments and interactive simulations, including computer games. While these activities are understood fairly well in desktop systems and performance can be predicted reasonably accurately (e.g. via Fitts' law), the relevant findings and models do not generalize directly to large scale screens, stereo displays, touch screens, and combinations thereof. This research project investigates human performance for 3D pointing, tracking, targeting, and manipulation on 3D display systems. The work will be informed from 3D user interfaces& virtual reality, human-computer interaction, as well as human perception and motor control research.

The postdoctoral fellow will contribute to the implementation and design of user studies of 3D interaction. The candidate will also participate in the development and testing of new 3D pointing, tracking, targeting, and manipulation techniques. As applicable, the candidate will also be expected to learn about human perception and motor control. The fellow will also help supervise and coordinate graduate students.

The ideal applicant should be qualified at the PhD level (or equivalent) and must have excellent interpersonal, English writing and research skills, strong time management and organizational skills, the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines, and work both independently and as a member of the multidisciplinary research team.

The successful applicant will join world-class Human-Computer Interaction, 3D User Interface, and Human Perception communities at York University: the Interactive Systems Research Group (ISRG) and the Centre of Vision Research (CVR) . The candidate will be co-supervised by Wolfgang Stuerzlinger and another faculty member, as appropriate for the research project(s). PhD project: Determinants and measurement of presence during advanced driver assistance systems simulator testing

Objective
The aim of the PhD project is to define a theoretical framework and to identify the factors influencing the subjective sensation of presence in a virtual environment. It should result in the validation of a method to achieve the driver's presence in a driving simulator, in order to reach qualitatively high levels of representativity (of the real driving situation) behaviors in simulation conditions. The focus will be directed toward the concept of presence, which can be defined as the cognitive and psychological realism, or the “credibility/plausibility" of the situation.

Background

Virtual and mixed reality is more and more used to design experimental scenarios, aiming at evaluating cognitive and sensorimotor aspects of human-environment interactions.

For car makers, the driving simulator, dynamic or static, is a major tool to design and evaluate Advanced Driving Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Human-Machine Interactions (HMI).

Many Human Factors studies emphasize important issues related to the validity of behaviors observed in virtual environments, considering the absence of objective and physical risk.

In that respect, the subjective sensation of presence appears as a promising concept, as it depends both on the capacity of the driving simulator to reproduce the psycho-physical realism of a driving task (at the sensory and perceptive levels) and on the psychological state of the driver (motivations and intentions), which influences behavior.

Indeed, the absence of objective risk and the technical limitations of the virtual environment (even if it is highly realistic) influence this psychological state, and consequently the degree of presence.

The aim of the PhD thesis is to define and validate ways to increase the level of presence, notably by manipulating the experimental protocol (context and scenario) and by taking into account the subjects' characteristics (personality traits).

Norut Tromsø is located in Tromsø Science Park. A main activity at Norut Tromsø is Earth Observation (EO), with focus on satellite remote sensing using synthetic aperture radar (SAR).

The EO group is increasing its activities within remote sensing and monitoring of tropical forests in support of REDD (Reduced Emission of Deforestation and forest Degradation).

“Pseudo-Haptic Interactive Techniques with 2D or 3D Web Content”

1-year post-doctoral position is open at INRIA (National Institute of Research in Computer Science and Control), Rennes, France (salary=2606,80 Euros/month before taxes), under the supervision of Dr. Anatole Lécuyer.

The project is in the areas of Interactive Techniques, Human-Computer Interaction(HCI), Haptic and Pseudo-Haptic Interfaces. It is meant to improve interaction with web content and Internet 2D or 3D applications. It is in the frame of a 2-year collaborative French project involving French SMEs and academic partners. Regular meetings and exchanges with external partners are therefore expected for the postdoctoral candidate.

The postdoctoral program aims at designing and testing novel interactive techniques with web content inspired by pseudo-haptic concept. Pseudo-haptic feedback is a technique meant to simulate haptic sensations using visual feedback and properties of human visuo-haptic perception (on-line demonstrations here at: http://www.irisa.fr/tactiles/). Pseudo-haptic feedback uses vision to distort haptic perception and verges on haptic illusions. Pseudo-haptic feedback has been used to simulate various haptic properties such as the stiffness of a virtual spring, the texture of an image, or the mass of a virtual object (see bibliography section).

In this postdoctoral work, the candidate will investigate the adaptation of the pseudo-haptic scheme in the field of internet navigation. It is expected that pseudo-haptic effects will bring novel tactile sensations when browsing 2D or 3D web content. A series of experiments with participants will be conducted to evaluate the various proposed techniques.

The candidate must have a PhD and excellent background in either: HCI, 3D user interfaces, haptic interfaces or other relevant topics. Knowledge in designing and conducting experimental studies is a prerequisite.

Multimodal human robot interaction in mixed reality environments: application to DigitalOcean project.

The IBISC laboratory (University of Evry) is currently offering a post-doctoral researcher to work on an EC funded project entitled "DigitalOcean”. The research topics are:

Mission:
We interested to investigate: the combination of multimodal human robot interaction (audio, video and haptic) with mixed reality to teleoperate underwater robots (ROV or LAUV).

1) Mixed reality content:

This task is to study and develop a mixed reality (MR) module that allows mixing the actual images (sent by a camera on the ROV) with the virtual 3D model of the submarine site to explore. The main objective is therefore the visualization of the mixed reality contents. To do this we will in a first time study and propose algorithms for camera calibration and real-time registration (overlaying) virtual models and real images. Next, we will put forward a generic software architecture that will be used for both two types of demonstrators: WWW-based demonstrator (for the general public) and the multimodal teleoperation through a semi-immersive mixed reality platform.

2) Multimodal human-robot interface (a semi-immersive demonstrator)

The main objective of this task is to propose a more intuitive and multimodal Human-Robot Interface (audio, video and haptic). This multimodal interface will provide a way to interact with a remote robot (ROV) leveraging all of human sensory channels. A stereoscopic displaying (online 3D video) will provide a better visualisation of the remote real site. A virtual stereoscopic visualization (3D virtual model of the underwater site and virtual ROV) will allow learning, preparing exploration paths etc., to explore virtually a submarine environment before exploring the real environment with the real ROV.
A 3D interaction using haptic interfaces such as a SPIDAR (Space Interface Device for Artificial Reality) will allow user to feel the ROV during the exploration. The simulated audio feedback of ROV motors during the real exploration is other sensory information that can be used as a complementary feedback with the video and it is useful to enhance human presence during the tele-exploration missions. The proposed demonstrator will be a mixed reality mobile platform that can be transported during the presentations, meetings, conferences, etc.
It may be connected to an internet network from any place to perform real/virtual or mixed tele-exploration missions.

Candidates profile:
The candidate should have a Ph.D. in Computer Science /Robotics/Computer vision or
equivalent with a good experience in Human Computer Interaction or Human Robot
Interaction. He/She should be motivated by cooperation with our European partners.
Experience with haptic interaction is appreciated.

Teniendo siempre presente esta aportación formativa para el alumno, la beca tiene como finalidad la formación, por parte de la persona seleccionada mediante la participación bajo la supervisión del tutor asignado. El objetivo de la beca es formar al estudiante en las técnicas de generación de imágenes estereoscópicas. Para ello, se integrará y colaborará en un proyecto de desarrollo de dispositivo multitáctil 3D que se está llevando a cabo en el instituto ai2, donde adquirirá formación y práctica en la implementación del interfaz.

4º) PROYECTO FORMATIVO

La colaboración en la presente convocatoria se realizará ajustándose al siguiente
proyecto formativo.

Objetivo
Los conocimientos y destrezas adquiridas durante la duración de la beca complementarán
la formación del alumno, bajo la dirección del profesor tutor, en las materias de:
- Técnicas de diseño, desarrollo y depuración actuales sobre un proyecto informático real.
- Interfaces multitáctiles.
- Informática gráfica
- Multimedia
- Interfaces de usuario
El alumno colaborará en un área de creciente interés dentro del desarrollo de interfaces
de usuario avanzadas. Para ello, será necesario que desarrolle sus capacidades
colaborando en la búsqueda de información y de resolución de problemas.
Independientemente de ello, tendrá la disponibilidad del resto de miembros del equipo
para resolver las cuestiones que le pudieran surgir.
El alumno también aprenderá a aplicar técnicas de desarrollo de prototipos, tarea clave
para el desarrollo de nuevas tecnologías.

Actividades a realizar
El proyecto formativo se realizará mediante la colaboración tutorizada en actividades de:

1. Colaboración en el estudio del estado del arte en el área de generación de imágenes
estereoscópicas
2. Colaboración en el estudio de las herramientas de programación, pruebas y
documentación usadas en el proyecto
3. Colaboración en el estudio del estado actual del proyecto y de las bibliotecas
utilizadas
4. Colaboración en el desarrollo de primer prototipo de aplicación estéreo, usando el
banco de trabajo disponible en el Grupo de Informática Gráfica.
5. Colaboración en la incorporación al desarrollo de las aplicaciones dentro del proyecto

Una vez llegado al punto 4, se evaluará el rendimiento del alumno, permitiéndole pasar a
la etapa número 5, o bien volver a algún punto de los anteriores para reforzar su
instrucción.

Job description: Game technology is an important area of research and education in the department. The candidate will play an important role in leading and advancing the research on simulation and visualization of virtual characters, in the context of games and virtual world. PhD in Novel Interactive Visual Analysis Methods for 3D Seismic Data

A three-year PhD studentship is available at the University of Leeds (UK) to develop novel methods for analysing and visualising 3D seismic data on interactive gigapixel (Powerwall) displays. This project will improve the ability of geoscientists to understand and analyse the geology revealed by large scale seismic surveys. Significant potential exists for industrial involvement both during the project and after PhD completion, but also for academic advancement.

The PhD student will be co-supervised by Dr Roy Ruddle & Dr Hamish Carr (Visualization & Virtual Reality research group, School of Computing) and Dr Douglas Paton (Centre of Integrated Petroleum Engineering and Geoscience (CiPEG), School of Earth and Environment). project on Massively Multiplayer Online Game (MMOG) players and

Objeto de la convocatoria:

Dotación de 1 beca de la Cámara de Comercio de Valencia para el Servicio TIC - Informática.

Esta beca tiene como objetivos dar soporte al Servicio TIC - Informática en la administración de sistemas (apoyo tareas administración, instalaciones, configuraciones, software de base, atención usuarios, etc.).

Desarrollo de la beca:

El becario realizará los estudios y prácticas que le sean encomendados por el Jefe del Servicio TIC - Informática de la Cámara de Comercio de Valencia.

El desarrollo de la beca se realizará en la Sede central de la Cámara de Valencia - C/Jesús, 19 – 46007 Valencia (aunque podrá desplazarse o prestar servicios en otros centros de la Cámara), obligándose el becario a tener una dedicación a las actividades objeto de la misma de 35 horas semanales (8:30 – 14:30 de lunes a viernes y dos tardes de 16:00 a 18:30), que deberán ser realizadas bajo la tutoría del Jefe del Servicio TIC - Informática.

Labores a desempeñar:

Las actividades que llevará a cabo, serán labores de apoyo en:

• Soporte en la administración de sistemas operativos (Windows) y software de base.
• Soporte en la administración de redes de área local. Gestión de usuarios. Gestión de dispositivos.

Condiciones de la beca:

La condición de becario no genera relación laboral alguna con la Cámara de Comercio de Valencia.

Serán obligaciones del becario:

 Aceptar y cumplir las normas establecidas en esta convocatoria, así como las instrucciones que, durante el periodo de vigencia de la misma, reciba de las personas que designe la Dirección para supervisar la actividad del becario.

 Comenzar el disfrute de la beca dentro del plazo que se le señale y desarrollar su labor, sin que ningún otro compromiso impida o dificulte el cumplimiento ininterrumpido de las obligaciones contraídas.

 Cuantas actividades sean precisas para el cumplimiento de los objetivos previstos.

El becario se compromete a no divulgar ninguna información de carácter confidencial de la Cámara de Comercio de Valencia, ni durante, ni después de las prácticas.

La adjudicación de esta beca es incompatible con cualquier otra ayuda o subvención procedente de una Administración Pública o empresa privada, así como el desarrollo de una actividad regular.

Las incidencias que surjan durante el período de disfrute de la beca serán resueltas en expediente contradictorio por el Director de la Corporación, pudiendo revocarse la misma en el caso de incumplimiento de las obligaciones por parte del becario.

El incumplimiento de las condiciones anteriores dará derecho a la rescisión de esta concesión y, en su caso, a la oportuna reclamación de los daños y perjuicios ocasionados.

La Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria y Navegación de Valencia se compromete a dar cobertura sanitaria al becario mediante la suscripción de la correspondiente póliza de seguro médico.

El becario deberá hacer constar su condición de tal en cualquier publicación o proyecto realizado durante su periodo de beca y como consecuencia de ésta, haciendo mención explícita de la ayuda recibida por la Cámara de Comercio de Valencia.

El incumplimiento por parte del becario de cuanto se establece en el presente documento determinará la resolución automática de la beca. The scientific motivation is mainly to expand the application range of
inverse natural lighting models. More precisely, this project aims at
bringing efficient inverse rendering principles from computer graphics
into CAAD field in order to manage architectural design problem.

The inverse lighting simulation computes opening from lighting
properties. This is an inverse geometry problem as we are looking for
scene geometry. However this geometry also defines daylight source
visibility, so this problem could be seen as an inverse lighting
problem, source positioning or emittance research. This problem has been
addressed as an inverse geometry problem or an emittance research
problem (inverse lighting). Therefore this problem is not clearly
identified in the inverse rendering framework as an inverse geometry
problem or an inverse lighting problem. Moreover, the realization of the
architect will depends on his capacity to translate his lighting
intentions in lighting parameters. Subjective lighting descriptions
allowed by current CAD interfaces do not satisfy designers. Current
Inverse lighting model cannot take into account all parameters in order
to aid architectural design at the early stage of conceptual design.

Reducing the energy use of buildings without compromising the indoor
environment and services is the key challenge for Europe.”

worldwide challenge and the European Community defined energy saving as
a critical goal. Building energy consumption in Europe represents 40% of
the total energy use. The energy use of buildings comes mainly from
space heating, air conditioning, water heating and lighting. The
electrical energy used to light buildings represents 19% of total
consumed electricity. As a comparison this is 70% of the energy consumed
by passengers vehicles.

User comfort is an essential issue. When related to lighting, the user
comfort can be seen as the lighting ambience. It has been proven that
the human circadian cycle is influenced by lighting. The lighting
ambience is a way to characterise the functionality and the quality of
lighting. The lighting functionality is defined as light levels in lux,
avoiding glare and minimum contrast. The lighting quality have a
physiological influence, natural lighting is good for health, as well as
a psychological influence, natural lighting assist a feeling of
well-being. As a consequence, a good lighting ambience which merge
functionality and quality can increase productivity.

In order to achieve a sustainable architecture, designers cannot afford
to take into account the natural light influence on user comfort and
energy consumption. The key issue is to have an idea about this natural
light influence in the early stages of conceptual design, when buildings
are not completely defined and when the designer can still drive his
design towards a sustainable one without a loss of time and energy.

We aim at developing an inverse natural lighting model adapted to
architectural and urban design, and able to manage extended and dynamic
light source of natural lighting, complex designer's intentions, light
transformations through opening (shading devices, glass properties) and
light reflections.

Title: Models and Semantics for product-centric systems interoperability

The objective of this work is to test the scientific interest of making the product, beyond
the whole process, interactive (this means that the product information may participate to
the decision process), to organize then a more collaborative interoperability of different
heterogeneous systems (APS, ERP, MES, SCM). Companies are interested as much in
the design of systems (production, information, decision-making ...), and their
interoperations even their integration in a given context. This problem only makes sense
in the context of evolution of organizations and their environment, or when a company
provides engineering methods and tools that facilitate the decision making of complex
processes. Given this context, an approach for the engineering of these interoperable
systems with a particular view of their product information, possibly embedded into the
product itself, is to rely on different types and levels of abstraction or model of information
systems, centred on the information related to the products or the services to be
produced.

Job description: These models must express not only the "structural" components of the
products but also their behaviour, which may be constrained by the specific requirements
to the systems itself (business rules). The candidate will study this problem, both at a
technological and a semantic level, through their information systems. The particular
objective is to propose mechanisms and modelling invariants restricting or at least
identifying the semantic loss that may arise when interoperation between these systems,
including the product information, takes place.

This research proposal, involving both theoretical and applied research, is strongly
related with the research focused on interoperability of heterogeneous distributed
systems that fall within the themes, at the international level, of the Virtual International
Laboratory in Enterprise Interoperability (INTEROP-VLab1
) whose members "cover" a
large part of Europe and China.

Candidate profile : A Ph.D. thesis in Computer Science or Production Engineering with
solid background in Mathematics is required. The candidate to this Post-Doctoral position
must have knowledge in information systems modelling (using languages such as UML)
and some knowledge in product information modelling and production planning by means
of an ERP system. The theoretical part of the formalisation will apply 1st
order logics and
set theory. Experience in modelling concepts with Description Logic would be a great
advantage.

The open position is at the Division of Systems and Control, Department of Information Technology at Uppsala University . The division has a broad research competence in automatic control, system identification, signal processing, and system analyses. The post-doctoral position aims to strengthen the research in automatic control with applications in sustainable development. The Division has a long research experience in modelling and control of wastewater treatment plants. Another research area is modelling and control of solar power plants. Recently, we have started a project which aims to reduce emissions from diesel engine combustions by improving the control of exhaust aftertreatment systems. We welcome applications from candidates who want to conduct research in automatic control with applications in sustainable development. Example of research areas are control strategies for energy and resource efficiency of urban water systems and process industries, control of energy production systems, and control of combustion engines.

A Post-Doctoral position requires a Ph.D. degree in automatic control, or equivalent. The degree should typically have been obtained not more than three years ago. A Post-Doctoral position is time-limited for a maximum of two years, and may include some teaching (at most 20%).

Fixed term appointment for 18 months
Preferable salary range: 29,521 € - 35,333 € per year before taxes (or 1740 € - 2000 €

The Geometry and Graphics Group of the Universitat de Girona is offering a new
research position at the post-doctoral level to work on an exciting research project on
high dynamic range imaging. This 2-year project is funded by the Spanish ministry of
education and science, in the MEC EXPLORA program (TIN2008-02046-E/TIN, HIGH-
DYNAMIC RANGE IMAGING FOR UNCONTROLLABLE ENVIRONMENTS)
In this project we are interested in exploring solutions to the capture of high-dynamic
range images for dynamic scenes, with the aim of building physically accurate radiance
values. Input data will come from a set of low dynamic range photographs captured at
different exposures.

Applicants with a research background in the following areas will be preferred:
• Computational photography
• Image processing
• Computer graphics
• Inverse problems
• Colour science

The post, under the supervision of Dr. Celine Loscos, aims at producing independent and
original research relating to high-dynamic range imaging of dynamic scenes. You will be
expected to produce research publications and design, build, deploy and experiment with
high-dynamic range imaging prototypes.

Applicants should have a PhD in Computer Science (or equivalent), and a proven
publication track record.
